Induction hardening is a way of edge layer hardening and belongs to the group of microstrukture-changing processes. Chemical composition isn't changed. For this reason the treatment is restricted to steels with a high amount of carbon.
Highspeed heating allows treatment to be limited to edge layer only. Furthermore hardening can be limited to a local zone (partial hardening).
Most engineering parts are unevenly stressed, wearing and roll pressure are found at the surface, therefore induction hardening influences the edge layer characteristics. Increase of hardness will result in an increase of wear- and surface resistance.
Max part size: 800mm, Ø100 mm.
