According to DIN 17014 flame hardening is a way of edge layer hardening (austenitisation) and belongs to the group of microstrukture-changing processes. Chemical composition isn't changed. Concentrated heat exposure is followed by a sudden cooling.
Basically flame hardening can be used on the same materials as induction hardening, additionally parts consisting of pearlite cast iron, malleable cast iron and spherulitic cat iron can be flame hardened.
Max part size: 6000 mm, Ø 225 mm.
