Kammerofen

Carburization is the enrichening with carbon in an area limited to the edges in order to improve mechanical properties (wear) of the parts.

Settled somewhere in the middle between case- and nitride- hardening, temperatures are lower than at case hardening but higher than at nitride hardening. Enrichering with carbon decreases hardening temperature and critical cooling speed, therefore quenching can be done much gentler. Both factores reduce the risk of warpage. Desired surface hardness can be achieved by an afterwards annealing. In case of partial carburization areas can be isolated.

Advantages of Carburization:
This process leads to increased hardness and better mechanical properties at limited areas as well as a higher wear resistance and reduced warpage.

Max. part size: 500x800x500mm.
