Heat treatment is just one of many production steps usually needed to turn raw material into a finished part.

There are two different ways of heat treatment:
- pure thermical processes, like tempering, austenitisation; cooling processes like quenching and hardening
- chemo-electrical processes like salt bath-nitration

Success of heat treatment is influenced by a lot of factors, the choosen parts have to be designed and manufactured by acknowledged technical standards and must be in a condition that allows starting heat treatment without previous examination and test-hardening.
