Superfinish is a machine tool developed to achieve reproducable, specific and high surface-quality. The aim is to improve surface-structure in micrometer-range.
Advantage of this method is an even, approach-free finish covering the whole surface. Superfinish increases the material fraction (bearing part) and therefore wear-resistance.
Removal of material is only a few milimeters. The achieved surface is comparable to honed and lapped parts. Boardering structure remains untouched, therefore even an optical shiny surface will show chamfers under magnification allowing wanted lubrication pockets to stay. Superfinishing will only remove peaks of roughness, the geometry itself will not be changed.
Accurate tool control will refine even already smoothly finished parts without damaging them.
